To make sure no \u003cbr\u003emore Johnny-come-latelies in his family would try their hand at being emperor \u003cbr\u003etoo it is thought that he engineered a bloodbath that left nary a relative. \u003cbr\u003eConstantine II died in battle and Constans was murdered by the men of Magnentius, \u003cbr\u003ethe first of several usurpers. This left Constantius finally as sole legitimate \u003cbr\u003eemperor and he moved quickly to suppress Magnentius, an endeavor he eventually \u003cbr\u003eaccomplished. The strife didn't end there, however, as he still had to deal with \u003cbr\u003eother revolts and wars on every corner of the empire. Caught in these \u003cbr\u003enever-ending battles he died while on his way to battle Julian II.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFlavius Iulius Constantius was born at Sirmium (now Sremska Mitrovica in Serbia \u003cbr\u003e) in province of Pannonia , the third son of Constantine the Great , and second \u003cbr\u003eby his second wife Fausta , the daughter of Maximian .
