The face with a view of cologne cathedral from the south west, circumscribed above 'andie commemorative celebration of consummation / d. Domes at Cologne' (in commemoration of the completion of the ceremony for cologne cathedral) and dated '15. October 1880. 'there verses with the heads of Friedrich Wilhelm, signed' c.

R. 'on the base of the neck, and Wilhelm i facing right, circumscribed above' laying of foundation stone d. 1842 tower vollendum 1880 '(foundation stone laid in 1842 completion 1880), maker's mark' gebr. Stollwerck Cologne '.

The construction of cologne cathedral began in 1248 but which halted in 1473 with work incomplete. In 1842, the cologne to ZDV club which set up to finish the construction. Work was completed in 1880 and a ceremony attended by king Wilhelm i was held to mark the occasion.
