In order to promote the improvement of horse breeding, King
Oscar II issued a decree on November 1, 1872, in which he stipulated that the
stud management (Stuteri överstyrelsen) should award a special reward medal at
the annual meetings to owners of proven young horses who were deemed worthy of a
prize
